SAMe

SAMe is a natural substance found throughout the body that is synthesized from the amino acid Methionine and is one of the most important methyl donors in the central nervous system. Methylation is an essential process in ensuring the proper function of a number of organ systems. SAMe is involved in numerous biochemical reactions in tissues including the liver, joints and brain. SAMe is also required for the biosynthesis of critical neurotransmitters and hormones.

Benefits:

  • Supports enhanced mood and cognitive health
  • Essential for healthy metabolism of major brain transmitters, serotonin and norepinephrine
  • Helps promote joint comfort and mobility
  • Supports liver health and detoxification
  • Supports energy production
  • Enteric coated tablets for optimum stability and potency. Able to survive stomach acid and reach intestines for optimal absorption

Supports joint health and mobility
SAMe’s ‘active sulphur’ group supports collagen and proteoglycan production, essential components of connective tissue. These nutrients surround the joint and serve to act as a cushion in the cartilage enhancing mobility and movement and promoting joint comfort.
Supports mood and cognitive health
SAMe is essential for the metabolism of major brain neurotransmitters, such as dopamine, serotonin and norepinephrine. SAMe may also upregulate the production of phosphatidylcholine, supporting cognitive function.
Supports liver and intestines
The liver makes most of the body’s SAMe and relies on SAMe for its structural and functional integrity. SAMe enhances liver synthesis of glutathione an important antioxidant. The liver’s SAMe reserves are depleted by alcohol and toxins. Studies show SAMe may protect liver injury caused by a number of toxins.
Support for energy production
SAMe is required by the mitochondria, in the cells, to produce CoQ10, alpha lipoic acid and other nutrients crucial for energy production.

Individuals using antidepressant medication should consult their physician prior to using SAMe. Individuals with bi-polar or manic depression should avoid using SAMe. Not to be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Is SAMe classified as a vitamin or mineral?
No, it is not classified as vitamin or mineral. It is produced by a chemical reaction in the body from a combination of methionine and adenosine triphosphate.

Where in the body is SAMe produced?
SAMe is produced in the liver but is highly dependent on folic acid and B12. Insufficiency of these nutrients may lead to low levels of SAMe. Other conditions, such as Liver Cirrhosis, Alzheimers, Depression, may also compromise SAMe production.
